Always measure over the undergarments you usually
wear. Hold the tape snugly, but not too tight. Record the
measurements.
Bust: Measure straight across your back and over the
fullest part of your bust.
Waist: To find your natural waistline, tie a cord around
your waist. If your waistline is not easily found, rotate the upper
portion of your body until the cord ‘rolls’ into place. Measure your
waist where the cord settles. (Leave the cord in place for the
backlength
measurement.)
Hips:
This measurement is taken around the fullest part.
For shorter figures it is generally 7 inches below the waistline.
For taller figures around 9 inches below the waistline.
Back length: Find the prominent bone at the base of your
neck by bending your head forward until it is easily felt.
Straighten your neck upright, then measure from that bone down to your
natural waistline (where the cord around your waist is).
Hemlength: (1) Take one measurement from the base of your neck
to where you desire the hemline to be. (2) Take another measurement
from your waistline to where you desire the hemline to be.
Armlength: (This measurement is needed only if your
garment has long sleeves.) Bend your arm at the elbow to a 90 degree
angle. Measure from the top edge of your shoulder, down around your
elbow, to slightly past the wrist.
Shoulder Width:
Measure across your back from the top middle edge of one shoulder to
the top middle edge of your other shoulder.
Infants: the weight, height, waist,
upper leg and hemlength measurements are needed.
